Republican but doesn’t support W: Hangs around in Northern New Jersey, banging loud, obnoxious bitches with hoop earrings, chewing gum, too much lipliner and nothing of value to say. Picks them up in shitty sports bars. Trudges back in to work every Monday morning, wondering if there’s more to life. Vacations in Cancun two weeks a year. Picks fights on the internet.

No trust fund: Hangs around in NYC, banging artsy college chicks, foreign girls with accents, intelligent women, women with ambition and something to say. Meets them in cutting edge nightspots. Leaves for random foreign destinations at the drop of a hat. Monday mornings are no different than Saturday mornings. Vacations whenever a break in the action allows it, and definitely more than two lousy weeks a year.
Knows there is more to life, and is living it.

One side of the American dream is to work hard and earn enough money so you can send your kids to college and then maybe even let them see the world a little before they dive into their own adult lives. The idea is to give your kids a life that is BETTER than the one you had. We Americans need to knock off the class-warfare B.S. that makes us sneer at our fellow Americans who have accomplished this. And it’s important that we not hate these kids or assume they have no moral values or worth, just because they come from wealth.

The other side of the American dream is, well, we don’t all succeed at this and to each his (or her) own. If Sarah Palin wasn’t all that curious about seeing the world first-hand, that’s her prerogative. But today’s world is a huge and increasingly complex place brimming with ideas and approaches to solving all the problems we create as we go. For that reason I think a curiousity with the world is a not an insignificant qualifier for service in public office at the national level.

Unsupportive Republican – You wrote “I don’t really hear of too many midwesterners criticizing the coastal people.” I disagree. I think this is essentially the criticism of the “elite” that McCain et al have latched onto for the past few weeks. It’s populism run amok, as detailed in a great article here:

Sorry for telling like it is. I know, the truth hurts.

No Trust Fund- As for Palin “definitely talking about me”. Again, she clearly was NOT. She said, “I’m not one of those who maybe came from a background of, you know, kids who perhaps graduate college and their parents give them a passport and give them a backpack and say go off and travel the world.”

You said through your own admission, “I got my passport on my OWN, worked my way through college, saved up my OWN money and travel the world on my OWN dime, frequently taking a hit on my cashflow in exchange for the invaluable life experience of traveling.”

(Holding a megaphone) THIS WOULD MEAN SHE IS NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU IF YOU PAID YOUR OWN WAY!!!

She never said a word about Starbucks or BMWs.

Lastly, I didn’t get the comment about eating too much. I read through my comments and didn’t write anything about eating.

Republican but doesn’t support W, she was definitely talking about me. I live in Manhattan, I frequently drink espresso drinks, and prefer European cars. Maybe if those midwesterners want to be taken seriously, they should stop voting people like Bush into power.
And quit eating so fucking much, it’s killing my health insurance premiums.

I guess you’re talking about NYC, LA, DC, Miami, Vegas, and New Orleans.
You forgot Anchorage, Wichita, Cincinnati and Kalamazoo. Those places put Sound Factory NYC to shame.
