"Any activity of consequence in this world either happens in the penthouse or on the corner. That’s where things are put into motion, everything in the middle is just noise."

Great point. Very true. Unless you realize that nothing is of consequence. Not one thing. Then the middle is the same as the top and the corner, and then you are free to pursue happiness wherever you can find it. The world won't remember you, regardless.

Jonathan,

It was meant to be tongue in cheek at the end. It I was trying to cop MPM's style I would be doing so on my own site. I also meant for this to go live just before Halloween but we got our wires crossed so some of the subtext may sound out of place afterward. I agree with you that the people's champ archetype is my niche and it will continue to be as you will see. A true Alpha does indeed protect and vouch for the innocent and helpless. Robin Hood, not Al Capone so to speak.

I would implore those 'seeking alpha' to keep in mind that while that certainly is a core component to adopting the type of lifestyle written about here, the ability to be diverse and adaptable is of far greater importance in the long run. Learning to use situations to your advantage, even the dire economic one we currently find ourselves in will be your life's blood going forward if you want to be in this zero sum game. Any activity of consequence in this world either happens in the penthouse or on the corner. That's where things are put into motion, everything in the middle is just noise.

This was a great post about a very real economic development in post-crisis Western societies, by an obviously intelligent man who has written very insightful things in the past. Alpha Dominance is clearly having an identity crisis, though, because shit got cartoony at the end. The G's ranks are swelling? The G's are going to get you? For real?

MPM, better get control of your brand brother before it goes the way of Ed Hardy. Before you become a caricature co-opted by the bourgeoisie unable to carve a legitimate place for themselves in societies whose middle class has no room for future growth, like they do every other rebel figure in the never ending cycles of competitive consumption and creative destruction. Except with the job market for upper management drying up, they will have to pay for their Brioni suits by dabbling in the life of a G. This is wasted energy and a recipe for failure.

MPM, you are at a crisis point. As a leader you need to decide whether to keep emphasizing the underworld, international playboy on the rise aspect of the G, or the people's champ aspect. You clearly influence people. Don't do it in the wrong ways. When I think Alpha Dominance, I think people's champ. Not worldwide mob figure.

All of this knowledge and skill sitting around idly -- unable to be exploited by a confused and technologically obsolete capitalist class -- ought to be put toward productive use, toward the rebuilding of civilization and a free, open source society. This, not being a gangster, is something Alpha Dominance is capable of leading by example. Real Alphas are leaders. They take care of their people. Teach them lessons. AD can do this. It isn't as glamorous as MPM's theatrics, but so what. Somebody needs to help AD see his real value because he clearly can not.

I've been hustling, legally of course, since I graduated ten years ago. Having at least four 'professions' since that time. Its the rare profession that is even worth pursuing anymore, in terms of long term lifetime benefit:cost ratio. In most professions, you hustle until someone younger, better, and cheaper comes along and knocks you out of contention. Or you accept working at the bottom of the wage pool. There is always someone younger better and cheaper, and with labor unions losing power, even traditionally secure careers are in jeopardy of becoming lost to whoever will do them cheapest. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. There isn't any loyalty anymore, and pensions are rare. So why suffer?

If your smart enough, learn to create something that you can copyright or patent, and sell it. Thats the best way to get out of the time for money employment trap. Write about something that is useful, and beyond the ability of most people to effectively conceive of or research. The law protects people from copying your product. One of the few instances where the law can work to make your life better.

Or become a lawyer and learn to use the law to transfer value/money from one person to another, based on concepts of justice, and take your cut off the top. However, you couldn't pay me enough to do that, unless I was pimping millionaire divorcee cases. That could have its benefits.

Or learn to trade, as the G Manifesto does. However, you need an informational edge in that zero sum game.

Or be a G. Gangs and real hustlers make money by supplying the market with what most people cannot, usually due to bureaucracy and the law. Or they redistribute wealth through theft. But wait, that last one sort of sounds like the banking industry though, huh...? And they do it with societies' permission. if I had no heart, I would say that I just found my new career. But I do, and so I think I'll stay with being a prototype G and writer...
