Hipster VS Douchebag City by City Guide

It’s no secret that I have spent a lot of time doing work during the last decade in different American cities. And it’s widely accepted that I have swooped fly girls from Hell’s Kitchen to Hollywood. But the truly amazing thing about the last few years, is how Nightworld has really drawn its battle lines between two groups; Hipsters and Douchebags.

Here is an EZ city by city guide on what you will encounter girl-wise and competition-wise in each city in Acirema:

New York City: 99% hipster. Heavy hipster stronghold.

Los Angeles: Heavy douchebag, but plenty of hipsters as well, depending on where you roll. Also, there is emerging a kind of West Coast Hipster-Douchebag fusion of sorts. Houchbags. Dipsters. (LA has the tendency of taking a bad thing and making it worse).

Chicago: Skewing more douchebag.

Phoenix: 100% douchebag. I am actually guessing, since I have never been to Phoenix. (If I am going to the desert, I am going somewhere with Casinos, mad Gentleman’s Clubs and decent restaurants ie Las Vegas). But I am also completely sure about this.

New Jersey: 100% Douchebag. Again, this is just a guess, as I have only used New Jersey as a piss stop between New York and DC.

San Diego: 50% douchebag (gaslamp is a douchbag garrison), 50% hipster (northpark is a hipster fortress). The beach there is a hipster-douchebag beach fusion. Beachbags and Bitchsters.

San Francisco: 95% hipster. Huge hipster refuge.

Philadelphia: 80% douchebag (although this is kind of a guess, I really only pass through here to grab the occasional Cheesesteak and the occasional sparring session). Update: I forgot, I also once spent a couple of nights at The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia and swooped some girls. Good to note that The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia is excellent for The No Cell Phone Service Move.

New Orleans: Not really either. Some local douchebags. The tourists are heavy douchebag. Historically speaking, its been pretty anti-glitter. But what do I know? I spend all my time there Custom Suited down at Galatoire’s and The Ritz-Carlton. And of course, swooping Exotic Dancers at Gentleman’s Clubs.

Miami Beach: 70% douchebag but some hipsters as well. I think it is too hot and humid for hipsters to flourish down here. They are too skinny and too pale.

Orange County: 100% douchebag. Real strong West Coast Douchebag turf.

Washington, DC: 99% hipster. Hipster mania in Dodge City. No glittery shirts here.

Las Vegas: 120% douchebag. Bastion of Douchebaggery. The Mecca of West Coast Douchebags.

Atlanta: I am guessing heavily skewed douchebag. It’s been awhile.

Seattle: I am guessing hipster bonkers. Only been once.

Texas: ?

And there you have it.

Side note: It has never really been my language to use the terms “Hipster” and “Douchebag” but I did here in an effort to make The G Manifesto accessible to more readers by using more mainstream speak.

Great guide. You can only find info like this on the manifesto.

No Toronto? I know the G spends some time up there.

Toronto – 80-85% Hipster, with a growing contingent of douchebags forming and coming in from the 905.

It looks like the douchebags are growing faster than the hipsters (I’m attributing this to the douchebag mall-image style being easier to find than skinny jeans, indie bands and thrift stores), but it seems to me that the hipsters still hold down the ‘scenes’ with all of the good music (Toronto, NYC, DC, San Francisco), while douchers are city-based.

And LOL at bitchsters and beachbags.

    Black Rebel,

Yeah, I didn’t included Canada in this Data Sheet.

You are right though, Toronto is heavy hipster turf.

“It looks like the douchebags are growing faster than the hipsters”

Interesting take. I was kind of thinking that hipsters are more on the rise because of the down economy. Hipster bars seem to be gaining more traction than traditional douchebag strongholds.

But I could be wrong here.

“it seems to me that the hipsters still hold down the ’scenes’ with all of the good music (Toronto, NYC, DC, San Francisco), while douchers are city-based.”

I think there can be many trends drawn here if you chart it out, ie douchebags run more Red cities, hipsters reign supreme in Blue cites etc.

I would do more analysis, but I really don’t care since I am going to Europe for a while.

In Pittsburgh (for you, most likely a piss stop I guess), we have both, but mostly Ed Hardy and stripe shirt guys. We tend to be a little behind the rest of the country…

    Yeah, never been to Pittsburgh.

But I do know its the home of hard partying, cigarette smoking, fly girl swooping, G Manifesto Hall of Fame member, Harry Greb, so maybe I should make a pitstop (not piss stop) one day.

The G is dead on. I’ve spent significant time in every one of the spots he listed (and then some) due to a very nomadic lifestyle and can vouch for the accuracy.

    On Texas:
Houston, 85% d-bag (not big on that term either but I get it), 15% hipster (westheimer inside the 610 /museum district/rice village)

    Austin: 55% hipster, 45% d-bag

Dallas: 88% d-bag, 12% hipster (downtown, deep ellum, some parts of uptown)

MPM got me laughing at the San Diego “beachbag” & “bitchsters” tags…reminds me of my time laying low in Ocean Beach.

    The ghost of JD Walker,

Great breakdown on Texas. My data sheet was lacking in that area.

I kind of figured hipsters in Austin might have the edge.

Lends more validity to the “red city”/ “blue city” theory.

I thought Dallas would be a douchebag Mecca. That place seems to have douchebag written all over it, so to speak.

Ocean Beach is kind of more Hippyhipsters. And a layaway point for drugs moving north.

Chicago is about 70% douchebag (very heavy) and 30% hipster, though the hipster group is growing big time. So you were sort of accurate regarding the windy city. What happened to just cool normal people who listened to 90s hip hop and rock? Those were the days…

Atlanta has a compelling story…We have a large percentage of Black Hipsters and White Hipsters as well as White Douchebags in the form of SEC/ACC College Football Homers and hmm what do you call Black Douchebags…Lets see hmmm the Grown and Sexy Set? Then we have our ATL Trap/Dope Boy/Hood/Stripper Pole Scene and then we have the Entertainment/Industry/BlackHollywood Scene that can easily blend with Bipster so its not as easy to break down to simply Hipsters and Douchebags here.

    But here we go…

    Bipsters

    But my breakdown…

15% – Hipster (White) – Hangouts – Little Five Points, East Atlanta Village, West Midtown.

15% – Bipster (Black) – Hangouts – Poncey Highland, Atlantic Station, Luckie-Marietta District, Castleberry Hill, Midtown, Downtown, West End.

20% – DopeBoy/Trapper or Rapper/Strippa and their hanger ons = Hangouts – Old National Highway, Bankhead, , Decatur, Stone Mountain, Memorial Drive, Southside, MAGIC CITY. All the Down South Booty Music Strip Clubs that slang wings and Budweiser and $5 lap dances.

    25% – Douchebag (White) = Hangouts = Buckhead/Vinings/Virginia Higlands/Crescent Avenue and OTP areas Marietta, etc. (Outside of 285) http://www.otpatlanta.com/

30% – Douchebag (Black) aka “Grown & Sexy” = Hangouts = Atlantic Station, Lithonia, Camp Creek, Cascade, Strip Mall Clubs like Echelon 3000, Velvet Room and Esso.

    MPM,

No doubt most every major locale outside of NYC/PacNW (throw in SF) skews heavily d-bag – thing is, I could never say one spot is 100% (except maybe Las Vegas). Hell, even Phoenix has a small hipster element just a few blocks north of their downtown.

Word up on OB. I was thinking about that some of the cats I used to see along Newport Ave. when I originally posted – figured you were clowning PB/MB.

    Peace.

“Chicago is about 70% douchebag (very heavy) and 30% hipster, though the hipster group is growing big time.”

Yeah, I just got in similar data from some of my sources there.

They also confirmed that hipsters are on the rise there.

Hipsters seem to be gaining in some cities. I think it has to do with the Down Economy.

So for DC, is the 1% d-bag because of Georgetown and Glover Park? I’d think you’re also ignoring the whole B&T Ed Hardy dbag contingent hanging out across the Key Bridge on Wilson Blvd in VA. Hipster parts of DC are U Street corridor, H St NE, Adams Morgan, a little bit of Dupont and a few dashes of Tenleytown and Foggy Bottom. I’d think it’d be more like 70% hipster and 30% dbag.

San Francisco gets too much credit here. I think the douche factors, especially over the past few years has significantly increased. With all the money from finance, investment firms, lawyers, and dot commers, the amount of suits with pocket squares, scarfs on guys when it’s well over 50F and alike signs of douchery are on a clear rise.
