I wasn’t able to do my typical prediction on Manny Pacquiao VS Miguel Cotto as I was laying low in the badlands of Norte Baja and swooping girls in Tijuana. I actually watched Manny Pacquiao VS Miguel Cotto in a bar full of crazy Mexicans and have no idea of the commentary for the fight.
(In case you wanted to know, my prediction was Manny Pacquiao in a late round KO. Although, I would have said that Cotto at 3-1 wasn’t a bad bet).
Here are my post fight thoughts:
Manny Pacquiao is a living nightmare to fight. He leads, you punch and he punches more. It is very hard to beat a guy that triples your punch output.
Pacquiao has had an amazing career. Wins over Miguel Angel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Erik Morales will do that to someone. Hell, he had an amazing career after coming on top of the Barrera and Morales wars.
The only way Cotto could have won was to: get out of the first three rounds unscathed (he didn’t), rough up and foul PacMan (he didn’t), work the body heavy (he did a little). Cotto is a little too much of a gentleman to execute the proper gameplan.
Pacquiao is The Bruce Lee of Boxing. No one has the in and out attack and rhythm of PacMan.
No one is more dangerous than Pacquiao in exchanges. If Cotto didn’t exchange and get knocked down early, the fight would have pretty even going into the 2nd half.

Pacquiao’s chin is legit. He got hit with some heavy shots and stood up to them. He also took some heavy body shots, which seemed to freeze him.
Cotto has gallons of heart and courage. He easily could have quit, but instead tried to switch his gameplan and tried to win the fight up until the end.
I have little doubt that the names Rustico Torrecampo, Medgoen Singsurat hold mad weight in the Gentleman’s Clubs of Thailand and the Philippines these days.
Mayweather VS Pacquiao is on like Vietnam. They should just split 50-50 and make it happen.
Mayweather can derail the Pacquiao locomotive, but the question is if his inactivity will hurt him.
Either way, this may be boxing’s last great fight. The 80’s babies have proven themselves irrelevant.

I liked the odds on this and thought Cotto had a better than average shot if he could establish his body game, withstand the early onslaught and then walk Manny down. The first round looked like he might be able to do those things, but there is no defense for punches you just don’t see coming. If anything did surprise me a bit it was Manny’s power against a fighter who’s taken his share of heavy blows (legit, not plaster punches, like the ones he took from Shane Mosley, a fight sugar won by a round imo) and shown a decent chin in doing it. In any event, seven titles in seven divisions is an amazing accomplishment and this Pacquiao-Mayweather match must be made.

it was a bananas to watch the systematic breaking down of Cotto by the now, 7 weight class title winning Pac-Man. my question being, is PBF going to take the chance on Pac-Man, there’s virtually no one else for him to fight, and we all know he wants no part of Shane’s speed/is waiting for Sugar to get old…..hmmm.

Yeah, betting on Cotto was not a bad move on paper. Let’s face it, these fights are basically pick ’em fights. So if you can get 3-1 it is a smart play over time.
The only ones I really throw down CASH are the ones where the underdog should be the favorite, ie when Mayweather was underdog vs Dela Hoya.
Dela was the favorite because of hype. Anyone who saw Pernell outbox Dela years prior knew that Mayweather would do the same thing.
The thing about Pac that is amazing is how he has maintained his power AND speed in his move up the weightclasses.

I think Mayweather is strictly for the money. A Sugar Shane fight would make zero sense for him.
He will fight Pac Man.
He can always take out shane later on, if he wants to.

Mayweather has his work more then cut out for him. If he can duck, weave and hide from Manny he has a good shot, i personally dont see it happening.

RA the Rugged ambushed Floyd on that interview, listening to it right now.
Floyd didn’t handle it the right way, but to disrespect Floyd’s career is completely ignorant.
It seems like he has some strange bone to pick with Floyd and just wants to argue.
You can come up with an reason to disrespect any win anybody has had.
RA knows his history, and makes some good points (although many are pipe dream fan comments, not taking into consideration the real world of boxing) but Bottom line is, talk is easy.

Cotto had a torrid time with the southpaw. His footwork was horrible, he was squared up too often and let Pacquiao get inside his front foot too often. Thats why he didn’t see half the punches coming. Mind you this guy has some chin, Pacquiao destroyed Hatton who was supposed to have a chin of granite.
Dying to see Mayweather and Pacquiao, best fight of the last two decades.

I liked that interview. RA knew his stuff and was talking with fact. it was an ambush though, but floyd had no reply. Saying you are the greatest only holds so much sway.
If he fights manny, (my thoughts are mayweather is going to go in and ask for 70%, then blame manny for the fight not happening) i think he will loose.

I think the fight will happen. Too much dough at stake.
Understand that Floyd is all about the scratch. Sure he won’t fight Paul Williams – not enough cake.
Manny is a risk he will take. And people thinking Mayweather is afraid of Manny are crazy. Come on, the kid has been fighting since he was born. He isn’t afraid of anyone.
I just think it is so funny how boxing “fans” change so quick.
Calling Mayweather a “coward” is ridiculous. He can’t fight everybody. And he has ducked no one. He will just take the biggest fight out there. A luxury that the top fighter always has. De la did it too.
Just a few years ago he was the Underdog fighting a bigger De la hoya in a fight most people thought he would lose.
And all the way back in 2001, most thought Diego Corrales was unbeatable.
Sure De la looked bad against manny (a couple years later), but hind sight is 20-20.
This all being said, I hope for a good fight. I think both Floyd and Manny are great for boxing. Hell, they are the last two stars left still at or near their prime.
