One of the things I respect most about Pernell Whitaker (and for that matter Roger Mayweather) was the fact that he would do whatever it takes to win.
I remember the Pernell Whitaker vs. Roger Mayweather fight from back when I was a young cub running all kinds of hustles. I was shocked with the violent beauty of it all.
I was even more impressed with both fighters will to win at all costs. No holding back. Rules are meant to be shattered.

Pernell Whitaker vs. Roger Mayweather
• Even before the fight starts, Whitaker is landing blows (0:15). Mental Warfare.
• Uses Impeccable Technique in Round One to score a knockdown (1:18) with a sick right hook – left hook combo.
• Throws five punches after the bell (1:30). Mayweather, dazed goes to the wrong corner. Referee has lost all control of the fight.
• Throws a punch on the break (2:01) and lands it on the referee’s mug.
• Whitaker and Mayweather go to war and exchange heavy shots.
• Whitaker fights like a demon possessed (3:30).
• Sweet Pea not afraid to use an occasional elbow or two (4:20).
• Pernell notices that The Black Mamba is having trouble with his trunks, and takes advantage (4:47). First rule of boxing: Protect yourself at all times.
• Then taunts Mayweather (4:56).
• Much respect to Mayweather for channeling his energy to dropping Whitaker then hitting him while he is down (5:27).
• Whitaker is hurt, and is smart enough to hold.
• Regaining his head, Whitaker throws bombs back (6:49). Wobbles Mayweather.
• Mayweather plays possum (7:20).
• Whitaker “spins” Mayweather (8:10).
• Both fighters pour it on till the closing bell.
• Mayweather lands a late punch.
• Whitaker wins.

This is the kind of post that got me reading the G Manifesto on a regular basis ………Only G’s will understand the connection between boxing, beautiful women, crime and money….They are just different branches of the same tree…..”Sweet P” was a smooth fighter, a hall of famer, he was respected by all. As a kid i used to hate him because he wore a “sombrero” into the ring and disrespected Mexican culture…..but i sooned learned that the fight game is a war……and the only rule is …..WIN.

The blog is good, i just have my doubts about it. i am confident alot of this is fantasy. Im not too fazed by this, as it is all entertaining. This is a particulary good post. im not calling you out, this is the internet though.

Yeah, Pernell was Mayweather before Mayweather was Mayweather.
Mayweather even took a page out of his book with the sombrero move against de la.

Gio speaks the truth. Boxing is a metaphor of the life of an alpha male compressed in 12 rounds. He can be extremely arrogant and fearless like Pernell. But he can still give respect when its due, and treat an opponent like a brother, like at the end of the Bute fight.

I don’t understand why it’s hard to grasp the link to boxing.
The true G is a winner, a fighter, a tactician with the slickest zippo lighter.
Life is battle, round after round, he has no hassle, yet he hustles his ground.

I’m not a fan of this article or the idea it promotes. I also couldn’t disagree with the attitude of GIO more when he said, “The fight game is a war…the only rule is win!”. This couldn’t be further from the truth when spoken of Boxing. Boxing HAS RULES. Boxing has rules to ENSURE THAT A FIGHT BREAKS OUT. No more 45 round matches or mauling and wrestling. Boxing is designed to be lethal. This is the whole purpose of the Marquess of QUEENSBERRY Rules, so that each man MUST fight using THE SWEET SCIENCE, The MANLY ART of Self-Defense. Case in point, if you don’t follow me, watch Sugar Ray Robinson,Wille Pep,Charlie Burley, and Salvador Sanchez for example. This men were true boxers and embodiments of boxing SKILL. SKILLS KILLS. These men weren’t punks, and needed not to RESORT to bush league tactics and dirty fighting in order to control bout progression or gain an edge over an opponent. They were skilled enough at the craft to do it within the rules of the business, just like real men in life are skilled enough at their craft to not have to cheat or break rules that aren’t meant to be broken. Records are meant to be broken, not rules. This is why Whitaker doesn’t get alot more respect by history. True boxing aficionados do not hold the Whitaker’s,Zivic’s,Hopkin’s,Holyfield’s,Saddler’s of the world as high as the Robinson’s,Armstrong’s,Pep’s,Charles,Louis’,Hearns, etc.. There’s just something about a MAN who can soundly defeat an enemy within the rules of the sport without having to resort to bullshit and ugliness. Whitaker didnt like to fight or box. He just mauled,hugged,fouled,ran, and whatever he could to make a guy look bad instead of working for a KO or solid points win by matching his boxing skills to his opponent.
